Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium Kochi: Regional Sports Centre

A multi-Purpose world class indoor stadium using Swedish technology on the flooring with 20,000 sq.feet playing area applied with ‘Bonotech’ Swedish anti-skid sports wood polish which can have, at a time 12 Shuttle Badminton Courts or 3 Basketball Courts or 3 Volleyball Courts etc with a seating capacity for 10,000 spectators.

It is also used for exhibitions, car shows, weddings etc. This stadium was constructed at a cost of 5 crores in 1993 with a seating capacity of 10000 spectators. It has a floodlit stadium of international standards. International and National games have been conducted here. Smt. Sonia Gandhi dedicated this stadium to the Nation on 19th December 1993.

The one and only multipurpose world class Sports Centre in India in four acres of land. Regional Sports Centre leads the development of elite sport in Cochin city. It has been highly successful and is regarded nationally as a best practice model for elite athlete development. The Regional Sports Centre is situated in Kadavanthra, the heart of Cochin City, having an area of 4.02 acres of land. It is a “Centre of Excellence” in the field of sports and games.

It has the District Collector, Ernakulam as the Chairman of the Governing Body and the Commissioner of Police, Kochi city as its President in the Executive Committee along with ten elected members.
